3 Keys to Victory
#1: Win The Turnover Battle
Before the AFC Championship, the Chiefs had played seven consecutive games without turning the ball over (an NFL record).
Since the loss to the Bills in the regular season, the offense has protected the ball at a high level, and the defense forced turnovers in bunches down the stretch of the regular season.
Surprisingly, the Chiefs have yet to force a turnover in the playoffs.
Every previous Super Bowl victor has forced at least three turnovers in the postseason. For the Chiefs to win this game handily, they’ll likely need to win the turnover battle.
I say likely because Mahomes has proven time and time again that he can defy the odds.
Even if the turnover battle is even, or the Chiefs lose it, Mahomes can still find a way to will this team to a win, but it will likely be easier for him if the Chiefs win this area.
#2: Slow Down Barkley
Eagles RB Saquon Barkley ran for over 2,000 yards in the regular season and is having one of the greatest seasons for a running back in NFL history.
For the Chiefs to beat the Eagles, they’ll need to slow Barkley down.
Barkley is going to get touches and yards, but the key for the Chiefs’ defense will be limiting the explosive running plays and broken tackles.
#3: Put Hurts Under Pressure
As we detailed in yesterday’s newsletter, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts struggles when he’s pressured.
If the Chiefs can slow Barkley down on 1st and 2nd down and force the Eagles into obvious passing situations, the Chiefs should have a major advantage.
Hurts particularly struggles against zone blitzes—an area where Steve Spagnuolo and the Chiefs excel.

From the Podium
Andy Reid
On his presence as a leader: “I’ve been put in leadership positions from the time I was [young]. I was very fortunate that way. I don’t know where it comes from, probably the way I was raised.”
On practice this week: “We’re just going back through and trying to polish things up here this week. Still working hard.”
On having Mahomes: “It’s great to have Patrick Mahomes. I’m not going to slight that part. He’ll go down… as he finishes his career as one of the greats if not the greatest to ever do it.”
On aggressiveness on 4th downs: “Philly stays aggressive on their 4th downs, and they’ve got a good offense. On the other side of that, you do the same. You stay aggressive within reason on 4th downs. That really ups itself when you’re playing a good team that likewise does it.”
On focusing during SB week: “You understand that it’s about the game… The most important thing for the football players and coaches is that you function well in the biggest game of the year… It’s important that you focus in on the game plan… so that you can master it by the time you get to Sunday.”
On officiating controversies: “I don’t think the officials care about what’s said. They’re doing their job and they’re doing it to the best of their abilities. They don’t favor one side or the other. That’s not how this thing goes. It’s a good story, but that’s not the reality of how it works. You’d be insulting them to think that’s what they do.”
Patrick Mahomes
On being ready for the game: “I think guys are ready to go… You continue to work hard and all this build-up makes you ready to go on Super Bowl Sunday.”
On the biggest life lesson from football: “The biggest life lesson football has taught me is to work hard. If you work hard, you can achieve your dreams… I think working hard is something that these days people don’t want to do, but that’s how you go out there and have success.”
On sitting behind Alex Smith: “He taught me so much about being a pro… You have to learn, especially at the QB position… I think I learned that from Alex.”
Travis Kelce
On Coach Reid’s presence and leadership: “I think the first year to two years, I was like, this guy isn’t messing around. There wasn’t too much of the personality that I see now that he’s like a father figure to me… I owe everything to that man in my career… I have nothing but respect for Coach Reid and how he’s helped me get to where I am in life.”
On his nieces: “The fact that the girls are going to be wearing a “Go Uncle “Travy” shirt warms my heart and gives me something else to play for.”
On Taylor Swift’s work ethic: “What I saw on that tour last year was pretty remarkable. To see the week in and week out traveling from one country to the next, how excruciating it is on her body and her mind… It was something I could admire watching and take a lot of notes from.”
On his future in football: “I’ve got a full heart of football left in me… Wanting to keep that legacy or finding new ways to create those memories will keep fueling me and that love for football.”
On the Eagles’ defense: “This is going to be the best defense we’ve played all year. They play so well together… It’s going to be a fun challenge. I love going up against the best. It’s why I play the game.”
On his practice habits: “Early on in my career, I think a lot of my motivation was driven off of wanting to get individual success… Nowadays, I just love going to work with the guys I’m in the building with.”
On what his mom will be wearing: “I would hope she wouldn’t have the split jersey this time… I think she’ll be wearing red. I think everybody outside of Jason and Kylie will be wearing red.”
