Raiders Mock Mahomes

Last week, a video surfaced of the Raiders rookie safety Trey Taylor holding a Kermit the Frog puppet with a Patrick Mahomes jersey on it during their training camp.

In the video, Taylor mocks Patrick Mahomes by saying, “I’m here. I’m here.” This was in reference to Mahomes saying “I’m here” repeatedly to Raiders DE Maxx Crosby during a 2022 game in which Crosby and Mahomes had an altercation on the field.

Taylor then continues to mock Mahomes with the puppet, saying, “I’m a bitch.”

Mahomes was asked about the video at a press conference the following day, and he said:

“It’s still early in the year, stuff like that happens. It will get handled when it gets handled.”

Mahomes was asked again about the incident by CBS Sports, and he said:

“I mean that’s just kind of the Raiders, man. It’s football man, it’s all about trash talk and that’s why I love it, and so at the end of the day you get to go play on the football field and settle it there. So, I’m excited to go out there and do that again this year.”

Coach Reid was also asked about the incident, and he said:

“We don’t spend a lot of time here with puppets. We try to do our work and try to get better, that’s the important thing.

When asked about the incident and if he liked leaning into that kind of trash talk, Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce said:

“No, we addressed it as a team yesterday. We nipped it in the bud. It’s over with.”

Mahomes is 10-2 against the Raiders in his career and has led the Chiefs to an AFC West Division title every year since he has been the starting quarterback.

The Chiefs play the Raiders in Las Vegas in week 8, then again at Arrowhead Stadium on Black Friday in week 13.

Press Conference Updates

See highlights from the recent press conference below.

Andy Reid

  • On the LT battle: “They’re doing a nice job. They’re going back and forth and they’re challenging each other.”

  • On turnovers at camp: Coach Reid noted that he wants the offense to be aggressive at camp to see what they can get away with, and they want the defense to focus on creating turnovers, which will force the offense to protect the ball.

  • On Carson Wentz: “He’s doing a heck of a job. Fast learner, he’s got a good feel for the game.”

Patrick Mahomes

  • On the deep routes: “We’re out here to work on that… We’ll continue to get better and better at building chemistry as camp goes on.”

  • On Hollywood Brown: “Everybody told me he was a fast guy, but no one told me how much he can actually do on the football field.”

  • On the WR room: Mahomes praised the group and noted that the speed will open up the intermediate and short routes for all the receivers.

Dave Toub

  • On potential punt returners: Xavier Worthy, Kadarius Toney, Mecole Hardman, Hollywood Brown, and Nikko Remigio are the front runners to return punts

  • On the new kickoff rule: “These preseason games are going to be important for us. You want to try to kick the ball without a lot of hang time. Low, maybe skips inside the 10 and into the end zone…. You’ve got to try to kick it away from returners if you can.”

  • On the kicker for kickoffs: “Butker is going to be our main kickoff guy. He can move the ball and do a lot of things. Other guys that can kick off, Justin [Reid] and Louis [Rees-Zammit] can do it and be cover guys, now you have 11 guys instead of 10.”

Travis Kelce

  • On the transition from the offseason to training camp: “This is my sanctuary man... Year 12. That means I’ve spent about a year of my life here… I love it, man.”

  • On the value of training camp: “This is where it all starts… At the end of the day, this is where you really find out what the team is made of.”

  • On the offense: “We’ve got new pieces… We’re trying to blend that together the best possible.”

  • On how hard he is on himself: “I’m my biggest critic. I’m my worst critic… You have to have that certain mentality of always trying to find ways to do better. And I got that from Coach Reid. You can always find a way to do something better and make someone’s job easier.”
