The Latest
Pacheco Injury
Isiah Pacheco exited the Chiefs’ win over the Bengals late in the fourth quarter. Tests revealed that Pacheco has a fractured fibula.
Pacheco is expected to be placed on IR and will undergo surgery this week to repair his fractured fibula.
Pacheco is expected to miss six weeks or more.
Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest reported that a typical recovery timeline for a similar injury is around 12 weeks.
The injury is a significant blow to the Chiefs offense. Pacheco had 111 yards from scrimmage on 24 touches in the Chiefs’ win over the Bengals.
Undrafted rookie Carson Steele and recently signed veteran RB Samaje Perine will see increased workloads in Pacheco’s absence. The Chiefs will likely sign another RB or elevate one from the practice squad.

Kareem Hunt to Visit
In the wake of the Pacheco injury news, the Chiefs are hosting Kareem Hunt on a visit today.
Hunt was the Chiefs’ 3rd-round pick in the 2017 draft and played two seasons with the Chiefs before being released for off-the-field incidents that he was not honest with the organization about.
Hunt spent the last five seasons with the Cleveland Browns and is currently a free agent.
Last season, Hunt ran for 411 yards on 135 carries and had 15 catches for 84 yards.
Hendershot Waived
The Chiefs are waived TE Peyton Hendershot according to Tom Pellisero.
Hendershot was acquired in a trade at the end of August from the Cowboys but did not appear in a regular season game for the Chiefs.
Hendershot was fined over $5k for his push of a Ravens player on the sideline in Week 1.
If he clears waivers, the Chiefs may sign him to the practice squad according to Matt Derrick.
From the Podium
Coach Reid
On Pacheco’s injury: "I don’t have a timeframe on Pacheco. I know it won't be this week, and it'll probably be more than that. It’s going to take a little bit of time."
On Pacheco’s mindset: “I think he’s in a better place. That’s tough… He’s a guy that loves to play the game. He had tears, he’s emotional… Nobody likes to play more than he likes to play.”
On the RB position: “As far as Pacheco goes, I think we'll go with the guys that we have here now. Veach is going through his lists and looking at people, and we'll just see where that goes, but we're blessed to have some good people here."
On kicking a FG from the 1-yard line on the opening drive: “We had three good opportunities at it and we didn’t get it, and I just thought we needed to come out of there with points.”
On Kingsley Suamataia: “I haven’t gone that direction yet, as far as the starter, not the starter. Like I said last night, I felt like we needed to take a step back to take a step forward… We haven’t lost confidence in him… He’s got to learn from it. He’s got to take it in and get better.”
On Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s status: “Yeah that’s part of the equation… We just don’t have him available for the next few weeks.”
On Travis Kelce: “They did have some things that they were attempting there. He’ll get his catches. It’s not that he’s slowing down… Teams focus on him… It’s allowed us to utilize the other guys around him, and they’ve been productive.”
On Carson Steele: “He’s going to have to step it up there in that role, but I think he likes to be challenged, and this will be a good challenge for him. He’s obviously got to keep the ball high and tight.”
