Reviewing Part 1 of Chiefs vs Bills
The Chiefs (9-0 at the time) and Bills (8-2 at the time) faced off in Buffalo in Week 11 of the 2024 regular season.
The Bills won that game, 30-21, handing the Chiefs the first loss of their season.
Here are some of the key moments from that game, courtesy of Nick Jacobs of KNWA:
Mahomes threw an interception on the opening drive of the game
The Bills immediately responded with a TD drive, set up by a long completion from Josh Allen to Amari Cooper, who beat Nazeeh Johnson in coverage
Mahomes led a TD drive that finished with a 10-yard TD pass to Worthy
The Bills scored again after another long completion on Nazeeh Johnson led to an easy rushing TD
The Chiefs stalled out after Worthy failed to keep his foot in bounds on what would have been a deep completion to put the Chiefs deep in Buffalo territory
Chamarri Connor intercepted Josh Allen mid-way through the second quarter, which set up a TD drive that gave the Chiefs the lead
Up 16-14 early in the 4th quarter, Allen escaped pressure and found Curtis Samuel for a TD pass in the red zone to go up 23-14
Mahomes led an efficient drive that ended with an impressive TD pass to Noah Gray to draw within two
With 2:27 left in the game, the Bills went for a 4th and 2 at the KC 26 and Josh Allen scrambled into the end zone for a game-sealing TD run
Mahomes was intercepted on 4th and 13 with just over a minute to play to end the game
The game was close throughout and it ultimately came down to Josh Allen making a few winning plays at critical moments.
It is worth noting however that the Chiefs played that game without several key starters.
Here’s who the Chiefs were missing in that game:
CB Jaylen Watson
RB Isiah Pacheco
DE Charles Omenihu
WR Hollywood Brown
K Harrison Butker
The Chiefs’ defensive backs, especially Nazeeh Johnson, were exposed in that first matchup. With Jaylen Watson back in the lineup, the secondary should fare better against the Bills this time around. Josh Allen is also a handful for any defensive line to contain and adding Omenihu back into the mix should help with that.
Offensively, adding Brown into the lineup makes it harder for the Bills to focus on taking away a certain player as Mahomes has ample weapons to spread the ball to.
The first matchup in Buffalo was still a game the Chiefs could have won despite missing key contributors and making a few significant mistakes.
There’s no reason to doubt the Chiefs’ ability to beat the Bills this time around when you take into account 1) the return of those players, 2) the game being at Arrowhead, and 3) the Chiefs’ history of postseason success.

Luke’s Take
I wish I could be among the “very confident” crowd for this game, but I’m not quite there.
I’m “somewhat confident” the Chiefs will win this game, with a slight lean towards “very confident.”
Josh Allen is dynamic and has committed to playing turnover-free football, the style needed to win in the playoffs.
However, until I see him come into Arrowhead and knock off Mahomes in the playoffs, I’m still betting on the Chiefs!
