The Latest

From the Podium

Yesterday, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes spoke to the media.

Patrick Mahomes

  • On moving on to a new season: “We’re back in St. Joe, it’s time to get better... Even though we won the Super Bowl last year, we didn’t feel like we played our best football, especially offensively.”

  • On winning: “When you don’t win [the Super Bowl] now, it sucks because you know what it’s like to go out there and win it.”

  • On rookie WR Xavier Worthy: “There’s no easing [him in]. He’s got to be ready to go.”

  • On rookie TE Jared Wiley: “The physicality and speed, you see that… The mental part is hard, especially in Coach Reid’s offense… I’m excited for him to get in and get to work and hopefully make a big impact on our team.”

  • On being in St. Joe for camp: “It’s fun. The only thing for me is leaving the family is always tough. Being in the building, being at lunch together, you build this kind of culture and brotherhood… It’s the relationships.”

  • What he brought to camp this year: “This is my first year I’m bringing a TV… I brought a TV for NCAA [football video game] and the Olympics.”

  • On expecting a third child: “I’m done now! I said three, and we got three… I wanted to have kids young.”

Andy Reid

  • Injuries: B.J. Thompson is on the NFI (non-football injury) list. Jalen Watson, Charles Omenihu, Derrick Nnadi, and Joe Thuney will start on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list.

    • Reid noted that Thuney is doing well and should return quickly

  • On the rookies arriving early: “It’s great, it’s slowed down [for the rookies].”

  • On Mahomes and Kelce’s leadership: “I appreciate that leadership… When players start helping players out, we have a pretty good thing going. They go 100 miles per hour, and they make everyone around them go 100 miles an hour.”

  • On Mahomes’ hunger: “He’s always going to work on his game, and he always wants more. As coaches, we can’t ask for anything more than that.”

  • On the training camp environment: “There’s a certain toughness that this game requires… There’s still a part of it that’s a tough guy sport… It’s important that you develop that… The objective here is [to] get ourselves in football shape… so we can perform at our best.”

  • On a suspension for Rashee Rice: “I don’t know yet, I haven’t heard anything.”

  • On Xavier Worthy: “He’s looking forward to it… We’re going to get him going, you just don’t want him re-hurting the [hamstring].”
