The Latest

From the Podium

Andy Reid and Brett Veach spoke to the media on Tuesday from the NFL Combine.

Andy Reid

  • On the Super Bowl loss: “It was a bad day to have a bad day… We didn’t play very well and certainly didn’t coach very well.”

  • On Travis Kelce: “At this point, get out of town & relax. For right now, that’s what he’s doing.”

  • On LT: “We're keeping [all possibilities] wide open there...[We're] really digging in on what's available potentially in free agency and what's available in the draft...That's a position that we're looking at for sure."

Brett Veach

  • On Travis Kelce: “How we left at the end of the season is that he was fired up… I think we left it as he'd be back and we’re excited to get him back and get him going… Hopefully, he has a magical season to end his magical career.”

  • On offseason priorities: “We’re always investing in the offensive and defensive lines… Our priority is always on the fronts first and this will be no different.”

  • On WR: "I think (Rice and Worthy) those guys will be a dynamic combination. See if we can get Hollywood back. But, receiver will be a position we'll never shy away from."

  • On the increased cap: Veach noted that the Chiefs are more optimistic about their ability to retain G Trey Smith with the increased cap.

  • On Trey Smith: “He's obviously at the top of the list. We've already had some good dialogue with him and his crew...We'll certainly do what we can, and I feel pretty optimistic about our possibilities there."

Luke’s Take

I agree with the majority here. The offensive line, specifically LT, is obviously the most pressing need for the Chiefs, but the defensive line isn’t far behind it.

Chris Jones isn’t getting any younger, and the defensive line has primarily been filled with role players, except for George Karlaftis. As Jones continues to age, the Chiefs will need increased contributions from other members of the defensive line and they should be planning for that now.
