2nd Half
The Chiefs’ opening drive stalled, as Mahomes was sacked for the third time
The defense forced the Broncos to punt after Chamarria Conner made a key open-field tackle on 3rd down
The Chiefs moved the ball into Broncos territory, in large part due to Mahomes escaping a sack on third down and finding Perine for a big gain, but the drive stalled out in the red zone and they settled for a 28-yard FG
The Broncos drove into Chiefs territory before Nick Bolton had a 16-yard sack on 3rd down, forcing a punt
Mahomes was under constant pressure again and the Chiefs stalled out before reaching mid-field
The defense forced another punt that only went to the Broncos’ 46-yard line
The Chiefs drove to the Denver 2-yard line but on 3rd down, Mahomes overthrew Kelce in the end zone, so they settled for the FG to go up two
Broncos took over with 5:57 left and methodically moved the ball down to the Chiefs’ 17-yard line before calling a timeout with one second left to set up a game-winning FG, but Leo Chenal blocked the 35-yard attempt to win the game for the Chiefs
FINAL SCORE: KC 16, DEN 14

Quick Analysis
#1: Under Pressure
Patrick Mahomes was under constant pressure in this game.
He was sacked 4 times and could have been sacked on multiple other occasions if not for his elusiveness.
LT Wanya Morris went down with an injury at the beginning of the second quarter and was replaced by rookie LT Kingsley Suamataia. Morris returned on the last drive of the game and played through his knee injury.
Suamataia got destroyed, and there’s no other way to put it. Morris struggled at times as well, but he was a significant improvement from Suamataia.
For the Chiefs to have a shot at the three-peat, they have to figure out how to protect Mahomes’ blind side.
#2: Aging Like Fine Wine
Travis Kelce has been really, really good in five of the past six games.
Over the past six games, Kelce is averaging over 8 receptions per game and 71 yards per game.
After a slow first three games, many were quick to assert that Kelce’s impact would be lessened this season but his performance in the last six games shows he’s aging like a fine wine.
#3: Every Snap Matters
Most people, myself included, figured the game was over when the Broncos called a timeout with one second left to set up a game-winning FG, but we were all wrong.
Coach Reid, his staff, and the players talk relentlessly about getting better and staying in the moment. In a moment like we witnessed yesterday, it’s clear that they don’t just give those ideas lip service, they live them out.
The culture the Chiefs have, one that values every snap and every effort, is a key driver of the success of this dynasty.
From the Podium
Andy Reid
Opening comments: “A great show that our special teams put on there at the end… Leo steps up and does what Leo does every week. Somewhere, he steps up and makes a play… I’m proud of our guys for battling.”
On Travis Kelce: “Kelce had a big day with 7 receptions for 58 yards, and he tied Tony Gonzalez for most touchdowns in team history.”
On the blocked FG “It’s something we work on like crazy. It normally doesn’t work just like that but that one did… It looked like we had a couple of guys in there.”
On his message to the team: “You enjoy every one of these the best you possibly can.”
On LT: “No, I didn’t [consider moving Joe Thuney out to LT].”
Patrick Mahomes
On the ending: “More than anything, I was just sick that last drive because I missed that TD throw… I was just happy that we ended with that block… It was just joy after that.”
On Leo Chenal: “He’s extremely strong. He has the strength of a d-lineman but he plays linebacker.”
On the win: “Any way you win is good in this league… If I make the TD throw to Trav and the TD throw to Worthy, we’re probably in a different situation.”
On playing Buffalo: “We know it’s going to be a great challenge this next week. We understand what it takes to go into an environment like that and try to get a win.”
On Wanya Morris: “He’s a fighter man… That’s what you want on the football field, someone that can fight through injury and play.”
On the celebration: “It’s awesome man. You live for these moments. When you grow up playing football, you live for the walk-off whatever it is.”
Leo Chenal
On the blocked FG: “It was kind of right below the palm. It was a good push by everybody and we got through there.”
On the emotion after: “It’s complete shock! Not much I can say about it, glory to Jesus Christ.”
On the teamwork needed: “It’s big. It’s a team effort. They’ve got to respect our guys rushing on the outside.”
