#1: The Offense in the Red Zone

Despite being 5-0, the Chiefs offense has struggled to score TDs in the red zone. Part of it can be attributed to costly turnovers in the red zone. Reid, Nagy, and Mahomes all talked about red zone offense and limiting turnovers as a point of emphasis heading into this game.

Can the Chiefs score TDs in the red zone this week?

#2: The WRs

Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown’s injuries have left this group with a lack of depth. Juju Smith-Schuster stepped up in a big way last week but time will tell what this group is made of without Rice and Brown.

Which WR will step up this week?

#3: Stone Cold Jones

Chris Jones has been wreaking havoc on offenses again this year.

Take a look at this PFF graph to see how much better Jones has been than every other interior defensive lineman this season. Despite being doubled-teamed at a high rate, he’s been dominant.

Can Chris Jones dominate the 49ers offensive line?

Steve Spagnuolo

• On the Super Bowl against the 49ers: “I think back, and I always think we could have done a little bit better… It was really good to get the turnover on the first drive, that really helped us… I really kind of put it back on the players, they were that hungry.”

• On playing man-to-man coverage against the 49ers: “I think the QB is really good against zone… One of the things you have to remember is that last year was a little different. We had LJ here and Trent in a different spot… It’s going to start up front starting the run… I can’t find a weakness in this QB. Every time I watch him, I’m impressed.” 

• On FAU: “I’ve been pleased with Felix. This is a great opportunity for him… When Mike has gotten hurt, Felix’s reps have gone up… He just keeps building and that’s a good thing.

• On Purdy against the blitz: “I’m never going to go into the game and not blitz at all… But I do think we have to respect the fact that he knows exactly what to do with the football… He has a unique way of getting away from [the blitz].”

• On Chris Jones’ impact outside of stats: “You saw it last week. The Saints paid a lot of attention to Chris in the way they protected in the pass game… When they do choose to put a lot of attention on one guy, someone’s got a one-on-one, somebody’s got to step up and win.”

• On the DBs: “Jaylen has kind of stepped up and played some pretty good football… They all need to stay ready. Charmarri having filled in and played that nickel spot has really helped.”

• On Kyle Shanahan’s offense: “There’s a lot of movement up there for a reason. They get your eyes all over the place… We have a good group of guys that have worked together, and we need to do that all day out there in San Francisco… I think our eyes are probably the biggest thing.”

Matt Nagy

• On Juju Smith-Schuster’s success: “His experience in the league, his experience within this offense, his experience with Pat. There’s a trust factor there.”

• On bye week reflections: “It’s always great because things slow down… Sometimes you focus so much on what the opponent does that you forget that they’re watching what you do… It gives us a chance to step back… This last game obviously we want to be better in the red zone.”

• On running the ball inside: “Every year there are probably some schemes you do a little better than others… We want to be able to keep that going. We want to be balanced.”

• On their success running the ball: “#1 the players. Executing the scheme. I give. a lot of credit to Coach Heck and Coach Matthaei for coming up with the schemes throughout the week.”

• On Wanya Morris’ performance: “I think he’s done a good job, and he’s going to continue to grow every week.”

Chris Jones

• On playing the 49ers again: “It’s fun. I know it’s going to be competitive… We know what’s at stake. We know the challenge ahead of us, and we’re excited for it.”

• On impacting the game: “As a defensive lineman, it’s hard to be appreciated much unless you have 10-15 sacks… It’s okay to not have the numbers. You can’t pay attention to numbers. Team success is the best success.” Jones emphasized that you can have a big impact on the game without sacks.

• On his performance: “If the people around you succeed, then you’ve done more than enough.”

• On Turk Wharton’s performance: “He’s been tremendous for this defense… He’s been so good so far.”

• On being double-teamed: “I take [offense] when I don’t get double-teamed.”

• On what a DPOY award would mean: “As a personal aspect and a selfish individual, it would mean a lot. But I’d take a damn super bowl over a dPOY any day… We win another Super Bowl, middle finger up to the DPOY… We win another Super Bowl with a DPOY, now we’re talking!”
