Morris & Godrick Arrested

Chiefs LT Wanya Morris and OT Chukwuebuka Godrick were arrested Thursday night in Johnson County, Kansas.

Morris and Godrick were arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Morris and Godrick were released from jail on Friday after posting a $2,500 bond.

Wanya Morris was the Chiefs 3rd round draft pick in 2023 and started four games at LT for the Chiefs last season. Chukwuebuka Godrick was signed by the Chiefs last season from their international pathway, and he spent all of 2023 on the practice squad.

The Chiefs have not commented on the situation.

Harrison Butker

Harrison Butker has been thrust into the spotlight after he delivered a commencement speech at Benedictine College, a private liberal arts college in Atchison, Kansas.

In the speech, Butker expressed some of his Catholic beliefs about men and women, their roles, and current cultural views of those roles.

His comments outraged some so much that a petition on Change.com was started titled “Demand the Kansas City Chiefs to Dismiss Harrison Butker for Discriminatory Remarks.” The petition has over 217,000 signatures as of Sunday, May 19th.

NFL VP and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Jonathan Beane released the following statement about Butker’s comments:

"Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger."

Despite the outrage from some, Butker’s jersey became one of the top-selling jerseys in the NFL last week, outpacing superstar teammates Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Tavia Hunt, wife of Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, shared a post on Instagram in response to the controversy that supported Butker and his comments.

Gracie Hunt, daughter of Clark and Tavia Hunt, also expressed her support for Butker after his comments.

Many of the clips shared on social media only shared snippets of the five-minute segment that sparked the controversy. Regardless of where you stand on these topics, we’d encourage you to watch the comments for yourself to get the full context of Butker’s comments.

You can view the entire commencement speech here or watch from the 10-15 minute mark, where the controversial comments took place.

Worthy’s Car Stolen

Chiefs rookie WR Xavier Worthy had his car stolen in KC last week.

The car was parked in a parking garage at his apartment and was stolen at some point last Monday.

Worthy contacted the police but no other details have been released.

Luke’s Take:

Winning games in the NFL is hard. I wouldn’t bet money on a team—even the Chief to win more than 12 games in a season.

Like we saw last year on Christmas Day, sometimes a team comes out and just lays an egg. Despite having Mahomes at the helm, the Chiefs aren’t exempt from this.

The Chiefs also play the AFC North (Bengals, Browns, Ravens, Steelers) next season, arguably the most competitive division in the NFL.

They also have a 3-week stretch at the end of the season where they play 3 games in just 11 days.

Their schedule is far from easy.

However, the Chiefs will likely win the AFC West again and compete for the #1 overall seed in the AFC.

But, as we saw last year, sometimes a bumpy road is what a team needs to come together for a championship run.

I think the Chiefs floor is 12-5 and the ceiling is 14-3.
